Extremely Rare 1960s Singer 226 (226U3) Sewing Machine Made in Japan Beautiful
Here is a very rare Singer 226U3 Sewing Machine made in the 1960s in the Utsunomiya factory, Japan. Not very many of these machines were made and very few made it to the states, this machine came out of the estate of a military family that was stationed in Japan. Condition is excellent with minimal wear present, please see our high resolution photos.
The machine runs strong and switches between straight stitch and the pattern disks. We are not sewing machine experts but we do not believe there are any issues, it is possible so adjustment/ maintenance may need done after prolonged storage. The case shows some wear from storage but it has done a fabulous job of protecting the machine. The Singer models 223U, 224U and 226U were produced at the Utsunomiya factory in Japan during the 1960's, The serial numbers for these models therefore take the form of the letters TA followed by a sequence of 6 digits.
The 223U was a cast iron zigzag machine that could be powered by treadle (223U1), hand crank (223U2) or external motor (223U3). The 224U was a cast iron zigzag machine that could be powered by treadle (224U1), hand crank (224U2) or external motor (224U3).The 224 machines were provided with a set of 6 interchangeable pattern cams. The 226U was a cast iron zigzag machine that could be powered by treadle (226U1), hand crank (226U2) or external motor (226U3). The 226 machines were provided with a set of 6 interchangeable pattern cams. The 226U models incorporated a dial on the faceplate to adjust the pressure on the presser foot.
