Please be aware this machine is over 70 years old and has been used over this time. Overall, the machine shows very light wear from use over the past 70 years and is in excellent condition for its age. The sewing surface itself does have very light surface scratches [including the footplate] these are small and barely noticeable. The side faces are in perfect condition, & the hand-wheel has no chips, just light wear on the sharp edge. The sewing bed decals are in good condition overall - the leading sewing edge decals are the only ones showing any wear & this is negligable. All other decals on the head back are crisp and light decal is lightly worn. Decals are best protected with light cleaning with a dry micro-fibre cloth and lightly waxed to protect the lacquer surface never use anything abrasive or that contains alcohol or spirits. For most of these machines, where they have been used, there is more wear on the leading sewing edge of the machine front the surface overall is very good, in respect to Patricias age see photographs. The entire external sewing machine surface has been gently cleaned, re-waxed and polished.
The foot throat plate and head plates have no nickel loss and are shiny and crisp in. The top and bottom cranks are rust-free and the machine has been cleaned where accessible from old grease and oil - then re-greased and oiled. The motor is working very strongly, though tested for sewing purposes and externally cleaned, is untouched & not serviced by us.
We have checked the internal wiring for wear and/or decomposition these internal wires are in excellent condition, we have left these untouched. The external power-cords & plug are completely brand new, including the cord to the foot-pedal which has been cleaned internally and the old redundant foot-pedal capacitor removed, and retested and works very well [see our video]. The Featherweight Bobbin area has been thoroughly cleaned and all extraneous thread and dust accumulated over seventy years removed - the thread tension assembly has also been dismantled and cleaned at the same time. The original bobbin case in this machine is in good condition and has also been cleaned & polished.
The needle head, top-cranks area and the underside cranks and rods have been cleaned and re-oiled. All crank shafts and gears have had the slightest of grease added to reduce metal on metal contact, and bare steel rods lightly greased to prevent surface rusting in the future. All operating elements on this machine are smooth and responsive.
The original Featherweight black case comes with the two original case key [one has been polished as best as we could the other remains as we received it]. The case itself has been internally and externally cleaned and the externals of the case re-polished to the original lovely dark-black colour the case itself is very sound, with the hinges, latches and locks working well. This item comes with the following: foot-controller, 1 original bobbin case, 5 original bobbins, two Singer screwdrivers, one genuine straight sewing Singer foot & other feet attachments - see photos. We have recently used this machine ourselves to sew a couple of test samples and it worked perfectly well and quietly...These machines are always a pleasure to use, and you can be assured you will, with careful maintenance and cleaning, get many more years of use out of this wonderful machine. Please be assured that this sewing machine has been serviced so that you will be able to just unpack then, thread it up and commence sewing immediately we have a video of the machine in operation search for this on YouTube under: Singer Featherweight Patricia SN: EK325649 Mar 1955. This video will have Patricia just running first & then a set up for a sewing demonstration, with a spattering of general tips on the machine, setting it up and also demonstrating how the sewing the machine performs.
We are Singer Featherweight users ourselves and have our own very special historical Singer Featherweight 221 and really enjoy the sewing experience that these machines provide. So much so I wonder why I had not started my sewing career with one from the outset. Like the original owner they obviously loved'Patricia' as much as we care for these machines. They would be great for a first time sewer or an experienced professional - a versatile and very portable machine. He turned the amp up to 11 on service.
My lovely little machine arrived yesterday. Condition is far better than the pics could show.
