Vintage Singer Rocketeer 500A Slant-O-Matic Metal Sewing Machine. Includes Foot Pedal & Carry Case. Love or hate it, the Singer 500a is easily one of the most iconic sewing machines ever made. Designed during the height of America's space craze with a full complement of futuristic style-lines accented by brown and gold, this retro sci-fi relic is aptly nicknamed The Rocketeer.
The older 401a, the Rocketeer is significant in Singer's development because it represents the last of the'all metal' machines manufactured by Singer. This marked a turning point in Singer's build quality as subsequent models employed a variety of cost cutting measures, including the introduction of plastic gears, in an effort to compete with the influx of Japanese clones. The Rocketeer, is often considered the last of the'greats. Includes Carry Case and Foot Pedal. Uses Class 66 Bobbins & 15 x 1 Needles. Top Cover Opens to Reveal 2 Spring-Loaded Spool Holders, an Internal Bobbin Winder and Usage Directions.Double Needle and Zigzag Capable. Front Door Opens to Reveal Adjustable Presser Foot Dial and Threading Directions. Raisable Needle Plate for Darning.
Accepts External Cams (Fashion Discs). Very Good Condition Carry case latches not original. Silver instead of bronze but are original Singer latches from different case. Few light superficial scuffs and sticker remnants but in overall very good condition. Additional accessory case not included. See pictures for further details.
